BOY SCOUTS AT WAR: A CULTURE WAR

The Boy Scouts are in the middle of a culture war. It's not really their fault, it's just that the hundred year old organization has not changed with the times. What has changed is American culture and the Scouts have refused, so far, to give in to the demands from outsiders.

At issue is the Scouts stand against homosexual Scout Masters and that the Scouts continue to instill belief and reverence for God. This has brought them trouble from the likes of the ACLU (Learn more by doing a Yahoo Search for ACLU and Boys Scouts. See that the ACLU sides with Lesbians and Agnostics to remove all references of God from the public square and how the Boy Scouts are under attack by it.). Just this week, the Scouts were in the news once again after it was reported that the Pentagon joined in the fray. Pentagon officials have told military bases around the world not to directly support Scouting activities: no use of facilities for meetings, etc.

This caused Congress to enter the debate this week by passing 391-3, non-binding vote of support for the Boy Scouts (Three Democrats, including Barney Franks, voted against). The Fox News reports that "...the main thrust of the debate was what the House Judiciary Committee chairman, Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., said were the 'strident legal attacks' on the group."

Where this will end up we can only imagine. Christians know what is right. Because Christians speak out against homosexual activities as perverse does not mean they are "homophobic" (fearful??) or hateful. Christians do not hate, but Christians must continue to teach what is acceptable sexual activity.

The Bible speaks against homosexuality (same-sex relations) the way it speaks against adultery and fornication: it is contrary to the design of God. Paul wrote, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,..." (1 Cor. 6:9) He goes on to say that those who commit such sins can be forgiven, but it is implied that the sin is put away since repentance is required for salvation (Lk. 13:3; Acts 17:30).

Let's pray and speak out against all things evil. The mission of every Believer is to proclaim the Gospel of Christ; while calling on people to turn from sin and do the will of God.

UPDATE, July 26, 2005
In 1999, the ACLU sued to force the Pentagon from allowing Boy Scout activities on government property. On July 26, 2005, the Senate voted 98-0 that federal agencies may allow the Scouts to hold meetings and other activities on government properties. This was reported on Foxnews. The Scouts have been under attack by the ACLU because of a ban against having gay leaders and because the Scouts compel members to swear an oath to God.

The Boy Scout Oath
"On my honor I will do my best, To do my duty to God and my country, and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."
