"Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made...." (Is. 43:7)
Many people wonder about the purpose of life. Isaiah wrote a long time ago that our purpose is to bring glory to God. The unbelieving world declares that there is no meaning in the world because it all came about by accident. Such an attitude encourages people to live according to the flesh, for the here and now, seeking whatever brings them pleasure in the moment. But this is foolish because there is reason to believe in God. Like Paul said, "Although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God....and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them" (Rom. 1:21,32). People choose not to honor and obey God and they do not glorify Him. People choose not
to fulfill the purpose for which they were crated. Consequently, they store up God's wrath as they live an empty and meaningless life.

The Bible teaches that God made man to His glory. People who believe in God will declare His praise (Isaiah 43:21). Like the "beasts of the field" (Is. 43:20) and the stars of heaven (Ps. 19:1) which tell of the glory of God, so too, man is created to bring glory to God. Man's design alone speaks of the glory of God. But unlike other creatures, man has been given free will and must choose to glorify and praise Him. Isaiah said, "You are our Father, We are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand" (Is. 64:8). Those who do not acknowledge God cannot bring Him glory.

"For my glory", it says God created man. How does man bring glory to God? The man who obeys, and worships, and proclaims His goodness is bringing glory to God. A man chooses to live a holy life to the glory of God. Because we are made by a holy and righteous God, only a life of obedient faith can give Him the praise He deserves. Man is to be holy because His heavenly Father is holy (1 Pet. 1:16; cf. Mt. 5:43-48). The Maker of all things has given man a reason to serve and to do good; to commit and stay faithful; to love and not hate; and to sacrifice. It is by design that God lifts, elevates, and infuses humanity with purpose. The greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God and to love your neighbor as yourself (Mt. 22:36,37). Man glorifies God in worship. When man worships God, he shows by his sacrifice what God means to him. God is good. And to His glory, man proclaims His goodness to others. Isaiah said, "Let them give glory to the LORD, and declare his praise in the coastlands" (Isaiah 42:12). Man is made for this. The best life is lived according to the purpose of God.
