TRUTH DOES NOT CHANGE - MAL. 3:6

Thankfully, truly important things in life remain constant. Unless Jesus returns, the sun will rise and set tomorrow and the elements will maintain the physical properties given them long ago. But most importantly, God doesn't change. Consider the following verses:

"For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed." Mal 3:6
"But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end." Psalm 102:27
"Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from
the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow." James 1:17

"To Him who made the great lights, For His lovingkindness is everlasting:" Ps 136:7

"Also the Glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind." 1 Sam. 15:29

"I, the LORD, have spoken; it is coming and I will act. I will not relent, and I will not pity and I will not be sorry; according to your ways and according to your deeds I will judge you,” declares the Lord GOD.’” Ezekiel 24:14

"10Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’; 11Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man of My purpose from a far country. Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it." Isaiah 46:10-11

Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit don't change. And the Good News that God saves people of faith has not and will not change. The important things pertaining to life and godliness do not mutate or morph because God is faithful and trustworthy. What is right and good does not change because it is from the immutable God.

There are many things, big and important things, that we cannot count on to be the same tomorrow. I noticed while reading the news today that scientists have recategorized Pluto so that it is no longer a planet. Instead of nine planets, there are now only eight in our solar system. This is a big change. Maybe the scientists will determine that there are more than nine tomorrow. I also noticed that scientists are redefining what is a "species". Since the 1940's, the term species meant "reproductively isolated groups of organisms" or those that can mate and produce fertile offspring. The new definition paves the way for the classification of many new species (I wonder if the classification of new species will mean the necessity of new laws to protect them?). Does this mean that the aboriginal man will be classified as a different species from the caucazoid? And will the Great Dane and the Doberman be of different species? This science news interest me because we learn once again how science is always changing and redefining for us what is truth and what is fiction. Along with the changes in science, our culture is always changing what is ethical and moral. Not long ago, it was still considered immoral for a man to lie with a man. And not long before that, premarital relations were looked down upon. And not long before that, marriage was honored and divorce was not so prevalent. As hard as man has tried to redefine what is true, the immutable truths of God have not changed. This places the church at odds with the world.

Many scientific-minded people deny the existence of God because they cannot see Him. But that doesn't make it so. Because people say the earth is billions of years old doesn't make it so. The Bible says that God spoke the world into existence in six literal days. On the sixth day, the young earth would look older than it was. Like the man, the earth looked older than it was. Animals were full-grown and trees had age rings in them. Genesis says that man, unlike all of the other creatures, was the crowning touch in this creation. The Bible says that God created the animals and man to produce after their own kind. On the third day, the day before He made the sun, He created plant life that produced after its kind. On the fifth day He made the living creatures of air, water, and land to be fruitful and multiply after their kind. These facts don't line up very well with evolution theory (that is presented to us and our school children as fact) that says that all of the species of the earth arose from simple-celled organisms which themselves sprang from a single common source, which itself arose from dead, inanimate matter. The evolutionist who feverishly dissect and map the human, animal, and plant genomes may conclude that it is all the result of an improbable accident, but that doesn't make it so. I believe the unchanging word of God.

We may awaken tomorrow to the news that Pluto, after all, is the ninth planet. We may discover tomorrow that coffee is good for you and that salt isn't the problem it was thought to be. Man's theories will come and go, but the truths that have been revealed in the Holy Bible will stand the test of time. In a world where today's facts will be tomorrow's fictions, it is good to take your stand and be established on the truth that God is real. He made the heavens, earth, seas, and all that is in them, and He has spoken to us in His Son, Jesus Christ. Truth doesn't change from day to day and on that let us take our stand.
