THE RIGHT PATH

"The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn." - Pro 4:18

A path in the light of dawn is easy to follow. There is no getting lost. There is no tripping or bumping into things. On the path of the righteous, there are many blessings like the confidence you have when following a well lit and well marked trail. You know you are not lost and that you will achieve your destination.

The righteous man is blessed because he listens to God. His path is lit by the wisdom of God. "I have directed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths" (Pro. 4:11). God's wisdom and truth makes the righteous man's path more sure.

The path of the righteous is far different from the path of the wicked. The Proverbs teach that every man is on one or the other path. Compared to the path of the righteous, "The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know over what they stumble" (Pro. 4:19). These are not good people who are in a bad place. They have chosen the darkness and they do things that require the cover of darkness. Solomon writes, "For they cannot sleep unless they do evil; And they are robbed of sleep unless they make someone stumble. For they eat the bread of wickedness And drink the wine of violence" (Pro. 4:16,17). Imagine how hard life is for the wicked who suffer because of their ignorance. These folks suffer from a self-imposed blindness that comes from denying the truth and loving wickedness. And this passage shows that they are not satisfied to be alone on this path. They stay awake thinking about making others stumble. To do this, they must deceive and confuse others. This path of the wicked person is indicative of a wicked lifestyle.

To be on the righteous path is not an accident. It is a path characterized by doing righteousness. "Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. Watch the path of your feet And all your ways will be established. Do not turn to the right nor to the left; Turn your foot from evil." (Pro. 4:25-27). Because a man loves and respects what is right, he seeks the wisdom of God and each step is guided by His commandments. How blessed is the path that is lit by God.
