THE VALUE OF CHILDREN

The message of Jesus Christ is one of promise and hope. "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son" is truth that proclaims the value God has for His fallen, sinful children. Though man is guilty of sin, He finds that God freely extends His abundant grace to any who truly believe in His Son. Through Jesus' words and life, we find that God measure importance differently than does man. That's because His wisdom is far above man's; even His "foolishness" is wiser than man's (1 Cor. 1:25). One of the most touching and profound things Jesus did was to rebuke His disciples for attempting to hinder children from being brought to Him. Jesus said,
"Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven" (Mt. 18;3).
But Jesus says, "do not hinder the children from coming to me." Jesus lifted children up and showed us what is truly valuable to God. God loves His children and He has a special place in His heart for the innocent.

But there are many people in the world who do not follow Jesus Christ. And their values are alarmingingly violent. They proclaim peace as they purposely target and blow up the innocent. Instead of showing peace and kindness, they spew venom and threaten death to all who do not believe like them. They are the radicals in Islam. The following is an excerpt from a Washington Times article after the first attempt on Benazir Bhutto's life.
MARDAN, Pakistan — The bomb that ravaged Benazir Bhutto's homecoming processional in October appears to have been rigged to the clothes of a baby who was held up for the former prime minister to embrace, Mrs. Bhutto said.
The baby and 170 other people died in the carnage. Instead of cradling the child and protecting it from danger, they passed it over their heads so that Mrs. Bhutto could give it a kiss. But the bomb went off prematurely. Poor baby. Poor, poor children who are made to think that they have so little value. And sad, sad people who do not rise up as one voice to stop the evil.
Mrs. Bhutto died at the next attack by a bullet.

  1. Discipler,

I think lost in all of this "evil"/ "refusing to follow Christ" etc. is the reality and activity of the devil. He is active and bent on our destruction. Baptism, as many Christians understand it, provides great protection from his wickedness and influence. In Hindu, Buddist, Muslim lands Christians are a minority so it's not surprising that many are ill-equipped when encountering the devil. Further thoughts?

  2. I agree that the devil is advancing in many areas. He had a high old when he led men to crucify Christ. These people don't know innocene from a hole in the ground. To strap a bomb to a baby and blow it to pieces is as barbaric and ungodly a thing as I can imagine. What evil must dwell in their minds. Lord, grant your children your protection.
