"On the other hand, the people least likely to lie are those who score high on psychological scales of responsibility and those with meaningful same-sex friendships."1

As common as lying is, it is not conducive to healthy relationships. Why then is it taken lightly so that one can hardly believe an advertisement on face value. The truth is hidden in very small print requiring magnification to read. And in this political season, rare is the politician who speaks what he truly believes. In their attempts to garner the most votes, the message must be massaged and taylored to have the broadest appeal, and rare is the exception. Only the naive believe everything they are told by a politician.

The Bible says, "speak the truth in love" and "laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR,..." (Eph. 4:15,25). God hates lying and He will condemn to hell those who are unrepentant. The Proverbs warn:

There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil, A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers. (Pro. 6:16-19)

"But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." (Rev. 21:8)

Liars are everywhere unacceptable to God. And they do not only reside in the market and political realms. They also work their deceptions in the matters of faith. To the false teacher, Jesus said the Devil is the father of lies, and "you are of your father the Devil, and you want to do the desires of your father" (Jn. 8:44). It would be short-sighted of Christians to not see this danger today. Both in and around the church today, there are false teachers. And spiritual leaders must know the truth and engage error when it comes.

"there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of
" - Gal. 1:7

And the Eldes are the ones...
"holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict." - Tit. 1:9

It is not a mystery that marriages fail because of dishonesty and unfaithfulness. It's not surprising that voters become weary of half-truths. This is all the work of Satan who would be happy if we all believed a little lying was of no consequence. A lie will not save the soul and set you free. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father but by Me." When all of the world is finally corrupted by lies, the truth of Jesus Christ shall remain. And when one can hardly believe what he reads, there is one book that will never change or be corrupted: the Bible. It is through the Bible that we may be made Holy, as Jesus said, "Sanctify them in the Truth, Thy word is truth."
