CHRISTIANS ARE TO CHANGE THE WORLD; NOT BE CHANGED BY THE WORLD

8 "The LORD will command the blessing upon you in your barns and in all that you put your hand to, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you. 9 "The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, as He swore to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. 10 "So all the peoples of the earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will be afraid of you. 11 "The LORD will make you abound in prosperity, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your beast and in the produce of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you. - Deut. 28:8-11
YAHWEH provides for and blesses His people. Those who walk according to His commandments are showered with blessings. They work hard with what the LORD has given them and in due season they receive a bountiful return. It is something the world can see.
"The LORD will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow." (Deut. 28:12)
With all of the blessings, Christians are in a position to share with the world. God's children have such an abudance of spiritual wealth that they are in a position to help the world. When a person's storehouse is filled by the Lord, he does not need to beg and grovel for the world to satisfy him.

The opposite of this blessing that God describes and promises is being a bankrupt, impoverished, and needy people. The opposite is where God's people turn to the world for answers. They begin to admire the world and look to it for help. Monetary debt isn't wise, but indebtedness to the world goes beyond that to warn against that growing dependance on the world for one's spiritual, emotional, and physical needs. But when God's people become morally bankrupt, God's blessings dry up. This should not happen. The church is here to change the world, not become like it. But in a time of weakness, God's people sometimes turn to the world for answers.

Borrowing from the world leads to trouble. Moses went on to warn the people that a number of curses would come down on their heads if they turned from God. They would be enslaved and their bounty given to other nations. He says in vs. 44
"He shall lend to you, but you will not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you will be the tail."
Once the people depart from God, they become enslaved to their new masters. By turning from God, they become enslaved to the world. In this impoverished state, they have nothing of substance to give or "lend" to the world

Borrowing from the world costly.
1 "Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost. 2 "Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance." - Isaiah 55:1,2
Initially it might look appealing, but the price is too high. Borrowing from the world, requires approving of the world, accepting its values and morals, and being enslaved. God will not bless these people.

Christians are blessed with all of the spiritual blessings in Christ ("every spiritual blessing", Eph. 1:3). The church has the Gospel and real blesings to offer to the world. This is a matter of faith. People of faith do not take God's blessings lightly. People of faith do not look at the world as the world does. Christians don't just a have a job and a pay check. They have God's bounty. People of God don't just see a mouth to feed and a diaper to change. They see a precious soul. People of faith don't just see stars, blue skies, and mountain peaks. They see the handiwork of a loving Creator. They do not think they are alone. Christians know and enjoy the presence of God in their lives and they trust in His providence in their lives. They understand that God has ordained, that both physically and spiritually, whatsoever a man sows, this shall he reap.

YAHWEH is not mocked. The attitude of the Christian is that he is going out to change the world, and not be changed by it. He has something precious to give to the world, and he wants nothing of the world. This is the attitude God's people are to have. God will meet their needs if they trust in Him. God wants us lending to the world; lending what is good to the world. God does not want His people borrowing the corrupt and vain attitudes, values, and practices of the world.
