DOING GOOD IS IN THE HEART OF CHRISTIANS

The goodness of God must be seen in Christians. In evil times, good people might be tempted to withdraw and remove their love, influence, and their light from the world. But it is in evil days that it is so important that the light of Christians be seen even more. It is easy to smile and give a greeting when you know you are surrounded by friendly people, but not so when surrounded by hostility. I believe this is the admonition being given by Jesus in His 'sermon on the mount'. If you look at Luke 6:20-45, Jesus calls for His followers to be good. Even when they are persecuted and mistreated (6:28), they are to be good to and pray for those who are your enemies. It might be difficult now, but they will receive a greater blessing.

Failing to show goodness to everyone might be due to a lack of faith that fails to see the eternal reward.
"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men." (Lk. 6:35).
Jesus tells His disciples to just be happy that God is pleased. His is the only reward a Christian should desire. Or it might be an evil judgment that decides that only some people are worthy of being showing kindness and love. This is not a godly judgment because the true Lawgiver and Judge shows love to everyone - should Believers do less? Christians must be careful not to judge in a way so as to justify doing less. It also might be that a person is filled with pride so that he doesn't see how sinful and undone he is. Not noticing the "log" in his own eye his "helping others" can never relate the love of God. It is not possible for me to help others with such a critical eye (Lk. 6:42). Such a person who is fixating on the splinter in his brother's eye does not have the loving spirit being described by Jesus. It is only after we have properly seen our own flaws, that others can or will perceive the love of God in our offer to help them. Yes, pride keeps us from having the giving spirit of Christ. If we only knew our true self, we would be filled with compassion and concern for others. The "better than thou" attitude would be replaced with "let me show you the love of God that saved my wretched soul" attitude. To understand that I am "wretched" means I am humble enough to say that none of us are worthy. Don't let sinful ideas keep you from doing good.

Judgement is necessary, but there is a particular judgment whose author must be the Devil because it makes the Christian no better than the sinful world (Lk. 6:34). Christian don't have the option to not do good. Jesus says, "give, and it will be given to you" (Lk 6:38). Christians can do nothing else. To do good, without discrimination is their makeup (Lk. 6:45). The majority of people in the world are lost and destined for hell if they do not change their course. They need to hear and see the love of God in those that have experienced it the most. So tell the world about Jesus Christ. Pray for the lost (1 Tim. 2:1-5). And do good to even those who persecute and mistreat you. Great is your reward in heaven.
