CAREFUL WHAT YOU WANT

Americans want prosperity. Most everyone is hoping and praying that the good times will continue. But there is a danger here for our nation and for our friends in becoming so fixated on the desire for wealth that we loose our true aim and purpose for living. It's nice to have money, but in the pursuit of riches many run the risk turning their backs on God. Paul wrote to Timothy,
" Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." - 1 Tim. 6:9,10.
The Scriptures do not ever seem to say that having riches is a bad thing. The danger that is described in this text is the attention that is given to pursuing wealth that is of such a nature as to require for one to turn away from God. This happens when godly principles and commandments are compromised in order to acquire wealth. Are we careful that we do want what will take us away from God? Americans want prosperity, but hopefully Americans want it not at the price of righteousness. God will exalt a righteous nation that seeks to do His will. Let's be careful that we do not seek a prosperity by compromising the will of God.
