IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD...

The Bible says, "Without faith it is impossible to please Him,..." God is not impossible to please, but it is impossible for unbelievers to please Him. This life is all about seeking and finding our God who is not far from us so that we might please Him. Such is our ambition (2 Cor. 5:9).

The faithless person rejects God on various levels. It can be an outright rejection like Paul describes: "For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks,..." (Rom.1:21). They reject Him even though His works are "clearly seen through what He has made." This is inexcusable. Others reject God in a more subtle way. In some ways they do acknowledge Him, sort of like demons that believe and tremble, but they their faith is shallow and dead and worthless (Titus 1:16). They believe in God, and even profess it, but it's not seen in their works. Selfishness and pride gets in their way. So what is necessary to please God?

To please God, we must believe in His Son (John 3:16). This really means something; it's not just an idle confession. It means also to believe His Word. He said, "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels" (Mk. 8:38). Noah wasn't ashamed of God's word. Abraham really truly believed and obeyed what God told him. It would have been impossible for Moses to please God if he had balked and compromised on the follow through. These guys did great things by faith. That's what it means when Hebrews says, "without faith it is impossible to please Him." Without an obedient faith, it is impossible to please God.

It is possible to please God. Paul said to the Corinthians our ambition is to be pleasing to God (2 Cor. 5:9). Praise God that with faith, trusting and unquestioning faith in His truth, we do please Him.

In the great commission, Jesus said for the Apostls to go and make disciples, baptizing (literally, an immersion in water) them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe al that I commanded (Mt. 28:18-20). Find a church of Christ in your area and worship God this Sunday.
