ACCEPTING CHRIST MEANS YOU REJECTED EVERY OTHER WAY

"Astonishingly, about half believed that everyone, atheists included, was going to end up in heaven. Heaven for the godless? That’s the old heresy of universalism” (ChristianityToday.com, March 24, 2009)" (Copied from Christian Courier).
For many people it is one thing to believe in Jesus as the Savior, but it is altogether another thing to say that He is the ONLY Savior. Some people are willing to profess their belief in Jesus, but they won't go so far to say that there are no other "paths" to heaven.

An open examination of the Gospel of Jesus Christ leads us to the conclusion that everything else must be abandoned. And the person who says he or she believes in Jesus will finally come to this conclusion.

If Christians aren't careful, they can come across as being heartless with an "I'm right and you are wrong" message. But the honest truth is that following in Jesus' steps means leaving behind a lot of things, including other religions. If you are not there yet because you have trouble accepting that people you thought were saved are still lost, you are not abnormal. After all, these people might be your family and loved ones. There is nothing easy about settling on a belief that necessarily excludes others from eternal life. But the clear teaching of Jesus is that being on the "straight and narrow path" is not the path of the majority (Mt. 7:13,14).

The Scripture enlightens us on all matters of life and godliness. The fundamental question we all must answer is do we truly believe in Jesus and His word? From the following passages consider the following verses and answer the questions for yourself.
  • John 14:6 says: "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.'"

The context is Jesus promising to prepare a place in heaven for His disciples and some day they will be with Him. What does the verse say, Y or N? Jesus spoke of being the "way". Are there other ways to God instead of through Jesus, Y or N? Jesus said He is the "truth". Do you believe there are other truths that are just as viable, Y or N? If someone doesn't obey Jesus, can that person be right, Y or N? Did Jesus say He was only one way is He "the way" to the Father?

  • Acts 4:12 says: "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

What is the one and only name that leads to heaven? What happens to the rest who don't profess the name of Jesus?

  • Mt. 7:13,14 says: "13Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 'For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it."

Are most people saved or lost? Who are the few who find the narrow path? Which path do you want to be on?

  • Mt. 7:21-23 says: "21Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS."

Are a lot of people misled, being religious but wrong? From these words, can we see that those who don't do God's will will not go to heaven?

  • 2Tim 3:16,17 says: "16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."

Do the Scriptures come from God? If the Scriptures, that come from the mouth of God, fully equip you, do you need any other writings?

  • Heb. 4:12,13 says: "12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do."

How is the Word of God different from the writings of men? From what this verse says, can we put human traditions, manuals of faith, catechisms, and the writings of other religions on an even par with the Bible?
Man is spiritual and there is a natural propensity in him to seek God. But every way and every belief is not correct. Jesus is the Son of God who is risen from the grave, and only in Him is eternal life. If you believe in Jesus, believe in His Word. And if you believe in Jesus' word, then accept that every other religion is the wrong way. A.W.Tozer wrote on the same subject:
"The notion that we enter the Christian life by an act of acceptance is true, but that is not all the truth. There is much more to it than that. Christianity involves an acceptance and a repudiation, an affirmation and a denial....Exhalation is as necessary to life as inhalation. To accept Christ it is necessary that we reject whatever is contrary to Him." ("Accepting Christ means rejecting all else")
Have we truly rejected "everything else"? Ultimately we must reject our own will and put God's will first. Jesus Christ, crucified for our sins, and risen for our hope, calls for us to put aside the things of this world and follow.

  2. I remember there was a period of time that lapsed between my salvation and my understanding that the others were lost. It wasn't easy. Thanks Anonymous for sharing this with others. Hopefully it will help.

Excellent article Dan. We were called at 2:00 a.m. to baptize a lady that had been studying for 12 years. When we got to her home she asked if it would be okay to keep attending Mass also. I answered with a question... If her husband had an old girlfriend and they were plutonic friends just wanted to meet once per week for breakfast.... she said she understood and she was not ready to give her heart to God. Dan it was another 5 years but thank God she chose Him.

  4. Nick, Christian Courier has an article on the Emerging Church including a quote from a Pew Research poll that is astonishing. There are so many so called Christians who haven't got a clue about the consequences of believing in Jesus.
