WE NEED A POINT OF REFERENCE: ARE YOU FIXING YOUR EYES ON JESUS?

A person has to see where’s he’s going in order to get there. It is literally true that to reach your destination, a person needs a point of reference. “People can't walk in a straight line from point A to point B without visual cues.” (BoingBoing, Why we can’t walk straight)1. When people are blind-folded or when they are caught in a fog or blizzard, they can’t walk straight, but they usually go in circles and become lost.

Likewise, spiritually, when we don’t have our eyes on Christ, we just go in circles. Without the compass, which is the Word of God, faithfully pointing towards Jesus, even the most experience and faithful will lose their way in the fog and storms of life. The Hebrews writer said, “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Heb. 12:2). To finish the race of life and to keep the faith, it’s imperative to keep one’s eyes on Jesus. He is our example on how to live and He’s the goal for where to go. So whether it’s clear or cloudy, keep looking to Jesus because a person needs Jesus as the point of reference for eternal life.

Dan, I appreciate your thoughts. I also think we need to keep God's compass (word) on our hearts by memorizing it. When we begin to lose our way, having it readily available will always help. - Kevin
