GOD WITH US - WHY HE CAME

  • Mostly we have walked only with mortals.  But for a while they walked with God.
    • 23 “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.” Mt 1:23
  • The Scriptures tell us God came down from heaven and Jesus was His name.
  • Questions: Why do it? For what purpose? What was the Mission?
  1. To Show to Us God.
    1. Love: Romans 5 "8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him."
      1. "16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." John 3
    1. His Justice: Jesus said, "He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day." Jn 12:48
      1. "Behold the kindness and severity of God" - We see in Jesus the true picture of God.
    1. Glory: "14And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.….No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him." John 1:14,18
    1. God came to live among us that we might truly know Him

  1. To Bring to Us What we Need Most - The gavel and courtroom awaited us, but Jesus came to set us free
    1. Mt. 5:17  "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law, I came to fulfill it."
      1. The requirement of the law was righteousness, and through Christ you can be made righteous.
      1. "He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." Rom 8:3,4    JESUS DID FOR US WHAT WE COULD NOT DO
    1. Jesus came to destroy the works of Satan:  1 John 3:8 "8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil." 1 John 3:8
      1. "56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Cor. 15
      2. Through His Death, Burial, and Resurrection, Jesus came that He could give us eternal life, victory over the grave and resurrection.  OVERCAME SIN AND GRAVE
    1. Belief in the bread of life, the manna from heaven, never hunger again, never thirst
John 6:47-51 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. 48 "I am the bread of life. 49 "Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 "This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 "I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever."
      1. -He is the Manna from heaven that completely satisfies our  spiritual hungering.
      1. -the hungering of the soul is Salvation; to be right  with our God, and know that we will spend eternity  in heaven.  BELIEF IN HIM BRINGS ETERNAL LIFE
    1. Lk 19:10 "To seek and to save the lost"
      1. His Mercy: Became the curse, the propitiation, the sacrificial lamb that brings atonement: "Behold, the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world." Jn 1:29
    1. He did not come as men would, saving the right and worthy people: "And He answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM." Lk 7:22
      1. God came to bring salvation to all, not to the insiders, the beautiful, the privileged. God loves the world and James says don't hold your faith in the Lord Jesus with an attitude of personal favoritism (Jas 2:1).   He also said, "did not God chose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?" Jas 2:5
    1. God came into this world to save us.

  1. To be Our Guide, to show us the Way - the Pattern, Example, Trailblazer we follow
    1. Say it with me,  "I follow Jesus Christ"
    1. Service: To show us how to live: "" Mt 20:26-28
    2. Pattern of Love:   "10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins." - 1 John 4:10
    3. Faith and holiness: He trailblazed the way of salvation, so keep your eyes on Him: "1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." Heb. 12:1-3
    4. Jesus came that He might blaze the trail for our salvation:

  1. To Call us to Choose Sides - to Bring us to a Decision
    1. Light instead of Darkness; Righteousness instead of Unrighteousness, the straight and narrow instead of the broad path that leads to destruction.
    2. The Right Path is Sometimes Hard: "34“Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35“For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW; 36and A MAN’S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD." Mt 10
      1. Affects everything: The question is: "What will you do with Jesus?"  He has something to say about your lifestyle. What will you answer?  He has something to say about the example you are. What will you say to Jesus?  He has something to say about your example as a husband….as a father/mother…..as a worker….  What do you say?
    1. Follow Me because our choice has eternal consequences: "24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 25 “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 “For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS." Mt 16
    1. What Decision Have you Made?

  1. Conclusion
    1. Do you believe? "The Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold a virgin will be with child and will bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel." Is 7:14
    2. Do You Know God in Jesus? Jesus, God in the flesh, has revealed to us the goodness, power, and plan of God.
      1. "And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent," (John 17:3, NASB).
    1. He has shown us how to live and has called all men to follow in His steps.
    2. Have you Come to the Point of Decision and repented of sins - 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. . Heb 4:15
      1. Saul was formerly a persecutor of the church, but He turned from his sins and claimed Christ.
    1. Have you been Baptized and Buried with Christ?
      1. Ananias words to him are still relevant: "Now why do you delay, arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins, calling on His name." Acts 22:16
