BETWEEN SAYING AND DOING

Something happens between the wishing and proclamations of faith in God and the actual doing....But not for the Psalmist who said,
"145 I cried with all my heart; answer me, O Lord! I will observe Your statutes. 146  I cried to You; save me And I shall keep Your testimonies. Ps 119:145
When you cry out to the Lord for help and then don't actually observe His statutes, what happened between the proclamations of faith and the doing? I will answer it: self-will. The same self-will that brought lots of pain and misery into your life in the past is still in control. You know it shouldn't be there, but it is. There is a war going on in the soul and one side will win.

How to change this and move forward with God? Repent. Really say you are sorry and do God's will. Pray about your weakness and ask God for help and then do His will. The Christian life is not the old life. The Christian life is filled with new hopes and dreams. It is filled with new people who are going to heaven. It is a different path, the straight and narrow path. It has worship in it. Before Christ came into our lives, we worshiped the world and things in the world. But this changed life includes worshiping only the true God of heaven.

Why don't we follow through on these prayers to DO God's will?

  • Ignorance - we don't know God's will.
  • Self-will - we put our will first.
  • Laziness - we don't want to get off of the couch do God's will.
  • Values - we value more the laying up of treasures on earth.

When you find that you want to do God's will but don't actually follow through, you are caught between the saying and doing. Realize that your prayers will not be answered. The Psalmist shows the right spirit is to seek God's help and to do His will. If you have been saved by the Lord, then keep your vow to follow Him and do His will. This is the path to many blessings from Almighty God.
