MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!!!!

The Gospel of Luke deals a lot with the issue of money and possessions! Zaccheus (Lk 19:1ff), the rich young ruler (Lk 18:18ff), the lawyer (Lk 10:25-37), the rich farmer and greed (Lk 12:16ff) , the poor widown who gave two small copper coins (Lk 21:2), the two brothers arguing about the inheritance (Lk 12:13ff), the prodigal son and his possessions (Lk 15:11ff), the unrighteous steward and our use of mammon (Lk 16:1ff), the rich man and Lazarus (Lk 16:19ff), the use of talents (Lk 19:11ff), the money changers in the temple (Lk 19:45ff), paying taxes (Lk 20:22ff), and more.

Why is money so important and such a big issue? Because money, unless it is stolen, is merely an extension of you. It's your energy, talents, industry, time, etc that is converted into a useful means of exchange. We are to love God with all of our soul, mind, and strength. Does that convert into how our money is used? We are to trust in God for everything in our lives. Does that translate into how we spend our possessions? We are to be laying up treasures in heaven. Does it show in how we spend our money? We are to understand that our life is more than our possessions. Does how we spend our money say we believe otherwise?

Truly, we cannot serve God and mammon, Luke 16:13.
