GENDER IDENTITY

What is happening to young men who don't know how to be men? In the About.com "Fatherless" article, is this little gem: "Confused Identities. Boys who grow up in father-absent homes are more likely that those in father-present homes to have trouble establishing appropriate sex roles and gender identity.(P.L. Adams, J.R. Milner, and N.A. Schrepf, Fatherless Children, New York, Wiley Press, 1984)." Of course, that was written in 1984 when political correctness hadn't completely strangled the voice of common sense. Today, there are few that would link absent fathers to confused sexual identities.

Dads that don't raise their children leave their sons to be without a role model. No role model, no clear identity. One statistic I saw said that only a 1/3 of children live with their father, and in the African American community, the number is only 1 in 5! Add to this the number of fathers who are physically present but are absent being caught up in their own interests whether it be fishing, hunting, weight lifting, or other individual interest that don't include the boy.

There's no telling the anger and frustration in many young men who have grown up into a full man's body but they did not have the mental, emotional, and spiritual development of having a godly father. At the same time, the ungodly society says the confusion is normal that it's not related to not having a father, but is caused by trying to be something you are not. You have the male body but you are a female. Hmmm, is this because a female was the role model? I wonder.

We perhaps could learn something from nature. As young bulls don't mature well without a role model, young men have great difficulty in maturing when there's no father involved.  Society doesn't tell this message because it dispels their view that single parenthood is just as good as the God-designed, two parent model. Boys need a father who leads.
"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Eph. 6:4
