THE FREEDOM OF THE WORLD ALWAYS INVOLVES ENSLAVEMENT

We all want freedom. The Pilgrim's wanted freedom to worship God according to their conscience. The American colonies wanted freedom from the British. Men all over the world are willing to fight for freedom.

But freedom that is without a moral underpinning is destined to fail. Paul wrote, "You were called to freedom Brethren, only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh", Gal. 5:13ff. In other words, don't think that God's grace means you can commit willful sin because God will hold you accountable. We have freedom in Christ but it is not freedom to act contrary to His will. God is just and right. Men should strive to act and think according to the will of Almighty God.

We all serve somebody. Peter wrote something similar to what Paul said: "Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God", 1 Peter 2:16. Rather than using "freedom in Christ" as a justification for following your pleasures, remember that you are representing Christ. There are too many unconverted "christians" who act and think just like the lost world.

The modern secular world we are in still talks about freedom. Men want freedom to choose their sexuality. Even though they are fighting against nature and nature's God. The biology is fixed and they aren't only having to content with stubborn Christians, but with their own body. It's not much of a freedom. And the black man rightfully fought for freedom from being counted a second or no class citizen in this country. That's fine and I'm with them on this. But now that they have freedom, do they enslave themselves once again to the whims and dictates of govt and human philosophies. That's not freedom.

The preachers that could be teaching them the liberating message of the Gospel have sold out to the dollar. If God says you are not free to be lazy and reliant on govt. handouts, then that is what should be preached. If God says you not free to have homosexual sex, then that is what should be preached. The freedom God gives to us in Christ is freedom from sin and guilt. But it is not freedom to do anything that pleases your flesh. That is slavery to sin, not freedom.

Satan is a terrible taskmaster. There's no freedom when man submits to his temptations. Freedom in Christ does the will of Christ. And his commandments are not burdensome. No man is free to do anything and everything that pleases him because we are created by God who will judge the world in righteousness. True freedom requires doing God's will. Men in our secular society may cry "freedom" but it's usually just slavery to a terrible taskmaster.
