STUDY #1: Zeal of the Lord Jesus
  1. Whether you are passive or aggressive, what makes you jump straight into the face of danger, in the face of conflict or debate, so as to stop some wrong or to offer reason and truth? What moves you off the couch into action?
  2. Text: Jesus didn't run...
    1. Read Matthew 21:12-17 at end of Jesus' ministry: Highlights: ______________________________________________________
    2. Read John 2:13-17 at beginning of Jesus' ministry: ______________________________________________________________
  3. Men are zealous...
    1. Mt 23, the Pharisees were zealous for what?
    2. Acts 9:1ff, Paul was zealous for what?
    3. What is zeal without knowledge? Romans 10:1,2; Jer. 8:9: “The _____ men are put to shame, They are dismayed and caught; Behold, they have rejected the _____ of the LORD, And what kind of _______ do they have?
  4. Is your God “zealous”?  Isaiah 9:6,7
    1. What was Jesus zealous for? Why did Jesus take such bold and aggressive action?
    2. 1 Tim. 3:15, what is the special commission given to the church? _______________
    3. Are we opposed to those who make merchandise of the Gospel? "For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.", 2 Cor 2:17.
    4. Do you find anywhere in the scriptures where the church of Christ was treated like a business?
  5. How did people respond to Jesus?
    1. Some positively? Some said 'Show us a sign.' See John 2:13-17
    2. Are we receptive or sceptic? Is this the Jesus you have known or does this aggressive Jesus fit into your view of Him?
    3. Is this what Christians should do? Is there a "temple" that we would "cleanse" by righteous jealousy for God?
    4. Are we raising our babies to praise the name of Jesus? Would you hide your children's eyes from what Jesus did or would you encourage your children to have like zeal?
What's the point?   _________________________________________________
