O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM. WHAT PUT YOUR CITY ON THE MAP? - Dan Mayfield

When Hazel and I married, we lived in a small town in east Texas. Mt. Vernon was known as the home town of "Dandy" Don Merideth, the great athlete and quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. What makes famous is at times remarkable and sometimes not. A town in Minnesota is famous for having the largest ball of twine. Some would drive an hour out of their way to see it.

But there is a little town, O Bethlehem, whose favorite son was born there over 2,000 years ago in a stable and the world still celebrates.

"But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity." Micah 5:2.

If there was ever a boast for a town, it would be this. Jesus Christ was born here, they say. Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, came in the flesh and was born in our small town, the residents can now boast. At the time, not even an inn would make room for his mother in labor, but now we all know better.
The Savior of the world was born in a small town with the humblest of beginnings. Kings and shepherd boys visited and worshiped the little child. And He is yet alive and worshiped by kings and shepherds. Do you serve the King who hails from the little town of Bethlehem?
