SALVATION IS A GIFT: RESPONDING IN FAITH DOESN'T "EARN" ETERNAL LIFE, ~ Dan Mayfield

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God" Eph 2:8 I completely agree with the Apostle Paul - and with the denominations - that salvation is entirely a gift and that there aren't enough works in all the world that a man could do to earn or merit it. Salvation is God's gift. Period. And even if God commanded for people to confess Christ, and to repent, and be baptized to gain that salvation, still it wouldn't earn or merit the salvation. "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?" Acts 8:36. Responding to Jesus doesn't earn eternal life. Philip "preached Jesus" to the Eunuch and that's when the Eunuch asked to be baptized. The Eunuch didn't ask to "earn" eternal life. The Eunuch didn't protest and say, "that would nullify the grace of God!" The Eunuch didn't say, "Philip, you are mistaken. I'm waiting for the baptism of the Holy Spirit." Nope, the preacher preached Jesus and baptism in water for remission of sins. There is a sense of urgency to be baptized because it's the place where God's saving grace is first received, Acts 22:16. By responding in faith, the Eunuch was saved by grace.
