SINCERE WORSHIP - INSIDE AND OUTSIDE

The Proverb says, "To do righteousness and justice Is desired by the LORD more than sacrifice" Pro 21:3

Some carnal men think they may please God with a gift to appease him when they know they are living contrary to His will. They treat people corruptly and they are filled with all sorts of sinfulness. God wants them to know that their sacrifice is pointless.

Other carnal men think they may withhold their sacrifice - because they are selfish and cling to their possessions - as long as they do righteousness and justice. What God desires is both. Jesus said as much:
"23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others" - Mt. 23:23
Jesus spoke of "spirit and truth" worship which is an imperative if we are to be pleasing to God. Carnal men rationalize their bringing one or the other to God. Inwardly they might be full of zeal but their flesh continues to be satisfied so that they rationize bringing will-worship, Cain worship. They say, "God is pleased with whatever I bring to Him." God who weighs the heart knows they are neglecting His will and replacing it with their own. They are offering to God whatever they want to. Perhaps the false worshiper isn't so convinced on the inside but outwardly he goes through the show of piety. Offering worship by this person is not in spirit and truth. They are going through the motions, but because their spirit is not right, the outward worship is defiled too like Nadab and Abihu worship, or Hophni and Phinehas worship. It might be according to the truth, but it is certainly not according to the spirit.

We must offering God sincere worship that is pleasing to God both inwardly and outwardly.
